About Henry

Hi there! I'm Steve, the dad behind Dad Thoughts. For years, as my boys grew up, I had a special way of sharing the warmhearted lessons, subtle jokes, and little truths I carried. These 'Dad Thoughts' sometimes came to life through my simple drawings featuring an unnamed male character. He organically started appearing on Christmas labels, birthday cards, or just passing notes.

One night, while I was building a technology website, my littlest one handed me a flashcard on which he drew an adorable robot mascot to accompany the AI portion of the site. He called him Henry. While I held it, I couldn't help the feelings that overcame me. My son was helping me because he knew Henry would help anyone as a tech chatbot. Of course, Henry didn't resemble my character at all, but they shared the same essence. So to me, they were exactly alike. Overwhelmed, I hugged him so tightly and thanked him for caring. He was only eight at the time. Little did we know, my son had just named my Henry, too.

I immediately taped robot Henry on my desk hutch, just above my laptop monitor. With every glance, he brought me joy. But I kept thinking, "Do my boys feel the same way when I hand them a drawing of my Henry?" I sure hoped so. Everyone should experience that emotion.

My boys are older now and living their best lives. Naturally, my original Henry's cameos have slowed down. However, I still have robot Henry taped to my hutch, which continues to inspire me and bring me joy. It made me wonder: what if other dads, and other families, could enjoy the spirit of my Henry (and those Dad Thoughts) too? And what better way to share a daily dose of fatherly wisdom than a mug, cradling those morning coffees, hot chocolates, or evening teas? That's how Dad Thoughts mugs were born!
